If you’re not familiar with this place, see my original post for context:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Basically, a French island off the coast of Canada that follows European laws, or something. Could be a decent place to obtain used European market cars when they become 25 years old for Americans and 15 for Canadians, as the climate tends to the mild side.

Remnants of New France and totally 100% French soil. They use the Euro and everything. It’s pretty damn cool, and I hope to visit some day. Maybe take a ferry from The Rock.

Yep it’s 100% France. Had to dredge out the old stash of Euros when the wife had to go for work. She really enjoyed the trip and said the people were great. Apparently while it is part of France, they have some leeway in terms of customs, so people can either buy North American spec vehicles or bring vehicles over from France. You can access it by ferry from Newfoundland, or fly from Halifax or St. John’s.

Quite a few but by no means all British and French territories have codes on their licence plates.

French

NC= New Caledonia

P= French Polynesia

WF= Wallis and Futuna

SMG= Saint Pierre and Miquelon

British (= number plate strips)

J= Jersey (Guernsey doesn’t have a letter prefix (GBG) ) (GBJ)

F= Falkland Islands

AY= Alderney

MN= Isle of Man (not necessarily at the front but within the licence plate) (GBM)

G= Gibraltar (GBZ)

SHG= Saint Helena

A= Ascension Island

TDC= Tristan da Cunha

TC= Turks and Caicos islands

At some point I need to pop over there. I’d love to take a look around and see what’s available, especially seeing how it’s just a ferry ride away from me

Wonder what the chances of seeing SHG or TDC plates anywhere else are?

Probably incredibly rare outside the islands.

1,000miles away from any continental mainland for Ascension and Saint Helena.

1,500miles for Tristan da Cunha.

interesting , a few Dacias there i see , but the Basque flag in the 2nd pic is a bit odd. and to see the old Renault sign hanging from a building was good.
